What a tune-up actually includes

The visit starts with the door disconnected from the opener. A balanced door should stay put when it is opened about halfway by hand. If it falls or flies up, the springs are the problem and a tune-up alone will not fix that. Mars then checks roller wear, hinge play, cable condition, track alignment, bottom seal, and the photo eyes. Opener force and travel limits get set only after the door moves freely. Tightening a noisy door and ignoring a tired spring just hides the next failure.

When a tune-up is the right call

Book a tune-up when the door still works but it is louder, slower, or due for a look before another Minnesota winter. Book a repair instead when a spring is already broken, a cable is slack, or the door is off the track. The free safety inspection that comes with a repair is the same kind of look, included because Mars is already there. A standalone tune-up is for the door that has not failed yet.
